Master Romero’s Wing Chun

Wanted to let anyone know who lives near Albuquerque, New Mexico and is looking for a great Wing Chun instructor to go visit Master Romero’s school. He’s a long time student of Hawkins Cheung. I highly recommend him. Not only is he a great teacher but also a great person!

You can visit his website at www.RomeroWingChun.com

for those that can’t see the “math equation” in order to post or reply in the “forum”, left click to the left of the box. The equation font is white for some reason which matches the background, that’s why it can’t be seen for many of you. We’ll get it fixed soon. But in the meantime just “highlight” to the left of the box and you will see the math problem. peace!

Email Questions

the old “contact” function at the top was not working properly and my “reply” to your questions were not properly sent.

Most Important Concept

What do you feel is the most important concept or principle in Wing Chun? This is a tough question but if you could only pick one, which would it be and why?

New Forum

Took me all week to build the forum, i encourage everyone to go and “introduce yourself” to everyone by clicking on the “forum” tag at the top of the website.   – Jin

Grappling Today

Just got back from nogi jujitsu practice with Lars Wallin. Today we were just rolling. what amazes me is that after rolling with Lars twice about five minutes each time, i was so tired. But Lars just kept going, he rolled non stop with everyone for almost an hour straight. i couldn’t figure it out.

but after watching him, i realized what he was doing, he not only maintained the most advantageous position all the time, he constantly remained relaxed. but he would “trick” his opponents to use muscle which wore them down until they made a mistake and Lars would get the submission.

and then it hit me, that’s why i’m so tired. i thought i was remaining relaxed, but his “tricks” forced me to turn my muscle “on”. just like chi sau, i have to adjust, but in wing chun, the changes happen in the “third stick”. i know this concept, but i wasn’t applying it to my grappling today, by changing the “body”.

in other words, wing chun, the sensitivity and changes happen in the arms, but in grappling, the sensitivity and changes happen in the body, this is also true for tai chi.

i’ll have to remember this so that next time i grapple, i’ll let you know how this works out.

take care and peace!

Martial Arts and Your Life

How often do you train? I ask this question to all my students. They usually answer a few times a week, or I try to do the form every day. If this answer sounds familiar to you, then I say, you’re not training enough. So how much is enough? Three times a week? Five times a week? Every day? If one of these sounds familiar to you, then I say, you’re not training enough.

I know what you’re thinking, how can you train more than every day? Here’s my answer, you must train every second, of every minute, of every hour, of every day. How can you do that? That’s impossible! I know that’s what you’re thinking, but you’re wrong. You must allow all the concepts and principles that I teach you to be completely absorbed into your life.

Take for instance the concept of “always go straight”. In you’re life, are you “going straight”, are you progressing forward or standing still or moving sideways or even worse, retreating? Are you moving every day towards your goals in life, in your relationships? Are you truly applying and practicing the concept of “always go straight” not only in your physical training but also in your daily life? If you are, then you can honestly say, “I train every second, of every minute, of every hour, of every day.” – Jin
